Status quo (red dots: data newer than 2000):
Helicigona lapicida is widely distributed on more or less calcarous ground in mountainous regions of central and western Europe. It inhabits rocks and walls, hiding in crevices and only present on the surface during rain or wet weather.

In Schleswig-Holstein it is distributed exclusively in the eastern part of the federal country in an area formed by the last glaciation. It inhabits calcarous woodland, crawling on older trees of Fagus silvatica and Carpinus betulus. It most probably needs high humidities, therefore it is often found in the direct vicinity of lakes or near the Baltic Sea. In Schleswig-Holstein Helicigona lapicida is endangered, some of the populations of older localities are obviously extinct.
